This summer’s essential ‘Picnic and a Play’
Dŵr Caru – Sweet Water, is a groundbreaking new musical play, made in the Marches, that unearths long-buried stories about our natural resources.
Specially written by Nick Walker, the show is led by a professional cast alongside three choirs (Mere Singers, Castle Voices, Whitton Voices), a band, and a company of over 100 amateur performers. Dŵr Caru reunites the team behind the sell-out Marches musical Evensong, including professional theatre director Paul Warwick, the region’s leading choral specialist Mary Keith and Presteigne’s very own musical maestro John Hymas.
With drama, humour and music, the plot follows the exploits of an entrepreneur seeking to cash in on a border community’s water source. As the drilling rig probes the site, uncovering layers of history as well as geology, ancient grudges and dormant passions are disturbed.
Performances take place ‘in the round’ inside the Sheep Music Dome, set beside water in the beautiful grounds of three Welsh Border country houses offering the essential pre-show picnic opportunity.
